Comments: The kerb lane has an uneven surface that could cause a cyclist to fall so you are forced to ride in the gutter or up close to the trucks.
Action Taken: This issue was reported at the Mackay Traffic Advisory Committee several years ago. Bicycle Mackay was advised that the reason for the uneven surface was that Mackay City Council did not make a contribution to the resurfacing of the road so only 5/6 of it was resurfaced. Main Roads/Council staff agreed to investigate methods of smoothing out the surface but so far no work has been done.

Comments: The new concrete traffic 'islands' that are all over the place near the new supermarket create a real hazard for cyclists - there is no room for a cyclist to get out of the way of traffic travelling in the same direction - the kerbs are all of the right-angle variety (the sloped ones would be safer) - and the road is simply too narrow. No bike lane has been provided at all.
Action Taken: Inspected site and sent email to Main Roads Mackay 30 May 2006 asking for a meeting to discuss the issues raised here.
